Pharmaceuticals and cosmetics are highly sensitive products and require special conditions of production. The condition of the ultra-pure water required for production plays a central role in this. Keeping the water clean micro-biologically and organically is of crucial importance. WEDECO UV and ozone systems enable highly pure water qualities (purified water PW, HPW, UPW) to be provided whilst observing economical as well as ecological criteria. We have also developed one of the most effective and most environmentally friendly solutions for you for the treatment of polluted production waste water.

Technologies are available with WEDECO UV and ozone installations, which develop their effect directly in the medium and fulfil the highest requirements with regard to TOC destruction (total organic carbon) and disinfection. The great advantage of UV light and ozone compared to other techniques lies in the environmentally friendly way both technologies work. No chemical additives are the put into the water and the natural characteristic of the water is also preserved.

Ozone oxidises numerous pollutants

The ozone molecule reacts quickly with a number of compounds, either through directly acting on the ozone molecule or indirectly through hydroxyl radicals that are created.  When ozone comes into contact with microorganisms, it oxidises their cell membrane and causes the cells concerned to destruct. Ozone thus works actively against bacteria, mould and viruses. Even unwanted substances such as iron, manganese or humins are destroyed with ozone. Since ozone “only” consists of three oxygen atoms, only oxygen is formed as a by-product after the oxidation process.

Owing to the high reactivity of the ozone molecule, ozone oxidation is also suitable for destroying persistent substances from industrial waste water. These micro-pollutants, endocrine disrupting substances and pharmaceutical residues can be effectively destroyed with ecologically and economically worthwhile doses of ozone in the water.

UV light disinfects without chemicals

During disinfection with UV light, bacteria, viruses and parasites are inactivated by a photochemical reaction between the UV-C radiation and the genetic information carrier (DNA) of the pathogen within seconds. The pathogen cannot multiply anymore and dies. In addition, UV light is outstandingly suited for destroying residual ozone.

  • UV is widely used for residual ozone destruction for ozonated purified or DI water loops before point of use

  • Preventing bio-films and active against existing bio-films

TOC removal

  • UV light with wavelength of 185 nm (Nanometer) are suitable to remove TOC
  • Endotoxine and TOC removal in purified and deionised water

Liquid sugar

  • Disinfection of micro-organisms resistant against high osmotic pressure in sugar syrup mixed with pharmaceutical substances

Blood serum

  • Disinfection (against viruses) of blood serum after ultra-filtration which is used for clinical and industrial purpose

Industrial wastewater

  • Degradation of endocrine disruptors, antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals
