The unhindered growth of bacteria, algae, mould and shells has the consequence of deposits forming on pipelines, heat exchangers and cooling tower installations. Water contents such as micro-biological pollutants, AOX and CSB are reduced directly and without residue by oxidation with ozone. Unlike conventional biocides however, there are no unwanted secondary reactions.

Keeping cooling systems with ozone clean in an environmentally friendly manner

Ozone is an effective and environmentally friendly means of treatment as an alternative to conventional biocides. As the strongest, technically producible oxidising agent it is outstandingly suited for disinfection (removal of viruses and bacteria) as well as for the oxidation of organic pollutants. Ozone dissolved in cooling water reduces substances in the water in the pipe system through oxidation. Unwanted secondary reactions or salinity increases do not occur. Since the ozone molecule “only” consists of three oxygen atoms, only oxygen is formed as a by-product after the oxidation process.

Micro-biological cleansing

Since ozone acts directly the cell wall of microorganisms, viruses, bacteria and parasites cannot adapt to the disinfectant. A periodic change of biocide is thus not required. A further advantage is the complete removal of micro-biological fouling in the pipe systems, on cooling tower installations and heat exchangers. Moreover, the AOX and CSB values in the water are considerably reduced.

Improved corrosion protection

In practice, the most frequent corrosion damages occur as a consequence of uncontrolled biomass growth (MIC). Ozone effectively prevents the depositing of biological slimes in the system and thus potential corrosion cells.

WEDECO ozone installations have already been successfully used for many years in cooling systems of the most diverse areas of production. They can be integrated into cooling systems without any special effort as turnkey systems. Operating and maintenance expenditure for the operator are reduced to a minimum thanks to the fully automatic mode of operation.
